The heavy tank Sd.Kfz 182 Panzer VI Ausf. B "King Tiger" was commissioned with the German army from mid-1944. It was very different from the Tiger I and was characterized by its heavy weight (almost 70 tons), remarkable armor, front inclined hull and fearsome 88mm KwK 43 L/7 cannon. The King Tiger was able to reach a top speed of 42 km/h with its Maybach V-12 engine. Two different towers were used for series production: the Posche tower and the Henschel tower manufactured in much larger numbers. Both towers could not only accommodate the 88 mm cannon, but also found space for 80 grenades. In 1944, the King Tiger stood for the first time on the side of the 503rd Heavy tank battalions during the battle for Normandy in combat use.
